Alonso triumphs, for now only in a commercial

The Spaniard advertises a nonalcoholic beer in a video where he plays the part of a viking tribe leader that wins a mobile tree trunk race. The director: “He’s very good on the set”.

MADRID (Spain), March 20th, 2007 - Fernando Alonso on an improvised podium, wit.h two lovely blondes to his sides and his arms raised in sign of victory. Sounds familiar for the Asturian Champion. Only this time the script is a slightly different: Alonso hasn’t actually won an F1 race, but a “mobile tree trunk race”, he’s not wearing the classic driver suit but an armor instead. The two girls are in “medieval style bikini”, all leather. The huge winers’ bottle which is usually sprayed on the fans isn’t the traditional Champagne bottle but a huge bottle of a non alcoholic Buckler 00 Beer which Fernando, instead of spraying it on the crowd, like after every GP, will empty himself, leaving all the others with their mouths dry.

Viking Head of tribe - We are on the set (you see the spot) of the new beer advertising campaign(of which Alonso is already the image in the printed media) and director A.J. Bayona, is giving the last suggestions to the team in order to record the first of the four episodes that will part of the miniseries Buckler “Power of taster”, all recorded in Viking taverns and Scandinavian villages faithfully computer reconstructed to the computer and with the help of tens of people dressed in Viking costumes and with long beards. In the video, Alonso plays the part of the leader of a Viking tribe. Watching the the video in the backstage, Alonso seems to have had a lot of fun.

The director confirms Fernado is a true Viking: “To work with Fernando has been beautiful indeed and above all very easy. He is very kind and he is comfortable in front of the camera”. The McLaren driver has strictly followed the advice and the indications of Bayona, having dispensed of smiles and funny faces for the use of the company. And so he has managed to turn out more Viking than a Viking, as Ignasi Clara, the creative director of the advertising campaign, said: “Alonso is a true Viking. He moves like them, he speaks like them and drinks like them!”. The closing is all the Spanish champion’s: “This year, I and my Vikings will return to living the great adventures and the great triumphs that we will surely enjoy”. The `nonalcoholic` toast in the traditional glasses horn shape glasses marks the end of the spot. A Viking salute!
