Ahead of the Malaysian GP the F1 World Champion from McLaren is calm: “Ferrari is ahead but we are working hard. What counts now is to score as many points [as possible]”

SEPANG (Malaysia), April 3rd 2007 - Ferrari has a gap ahead, like it was confirmed at the Australian GP, but Fernando Alonso and McLaren hope to reduce the distance to the Scuderia this weekend at Sepang. The Spanish reigning World Championin finished second in the first race of the season just behind Kimi Raikkonen - An important result whatsoever.

GOOD BEGINNING - “In Australia started the championship well - Fernando said - we knew we weren’t as fast as Ferrari, so second place was a good result. In the first part of the season it is very important to score points and finish on the podium, while development program of car continues. The team is working hard in order to reduce the gap to our competitors”. Last year Alonso was second [in the race] with Renault, while in 2005 he won the event.

TECHNICAL TRACK - “The Sepang circuit is very technical, the chassis must be effective in all the fields. All the curves are fast, a very balanced car with perfect aerodynamics is needed - he said - I have always had beautiful races at Sepang: I won in 2005 and last year I was second. That’s why I have great memories from this track. It is a hard hard race physically, for the pilots and all the team, but it is also hard for the car. But we are ready and after seeing large gap in Australia between us and the Ferrari, we want to quickly return to racing”.

HAMILTON WILL TRY AGAIN - His teammate Lewis Hamilton shined at Melbourne . The Englishman stept on the podium at his F1 debut.
